Biography: Peter Marcalus, b 1956, Sculptor


Peter has been creating art for over 50 years. He primarily focuses on making representational, figurative sculpture working in sheet metal, mixed media and reinforced concrete.
 

As a lifelong artist, he began studying art at private studios, then The Art Students League in New York, Syracuse University and Montclair State University in NJ. Peter holds a Business degree from Syracuse University and a Master of Arts degree in Sculpture from Montclair State University.

 

During the late 1970s and early 1980s Peter completed several bronze portrait commissions of NY Metro area businessmen as well as briefly teaching art and sculpture at northern NJ private institutions. Peter also participated in several group and solo shows in New Jersey and New York as well as a solo exhibit at the Amos Eno Gallery in NYC.

 

However, in 1983 Peter made the decision to work in sales and marketing with a manufacturing company and then later in life he worked in commercial real estate management. During that 37 year period, he continued to make sculptures, figure drawings and draw sculptural designs. Since his 2020 retirement from full-time business, he has moved forward with his art career.

 

He is a member of the Cooperstown Art Association as well as the Ridgewood Art Institute located in Ridgewood, NJ and he is a board member of the Arts In Oakland Committee in Oakland, NJ.

Peter lives in Cooperstown, NY and Oakland, NJ.
